Sweet Group Success for Mayson Filly

Posted on

Having opened her campaign with a cosy maiden victory at The Curragh on stable debut for Joseph O’Brien, HONEY GIRL (Mayson) took the step back up into Group 3 company well within her stride to land the Gr.3 Athasi Stakes. Honey Girl stalked the pace until Dylan Browne McMonagle unleashed a decisive turn of foot at the furlong pole. She hit the line three-and-a-half lengths to the good over her Gr.2-winning stablemate Agartha (Caravaggio).

Honey Girl was campaigned at two and three by Henry de Bromhead, running some excellent races, including when Gr.3-placed in the Cornelscourt Stakes and when running sixth in a vintage Gr.1 Coronation Stakes. She changed hands for 180,000gns at last year’s Tattersalls December Mare Sale. Honey Girl was bred by Mr P T Tellwright out of the 12f winner Fleeting Image (Sir Percy). This is the family of Gr.1 winner Rebelline and Gr.2 winner Quws.
