The Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury once again went the way of a three-year-old as BENEFIT (Acclamation) and John Fahy overhauled favourite Nahaar to land Listed honours for Clive Cox. Given a patient ride from the rear, Fahy switched his mount into daylight over a furlong out, she produced a smart turn of foot to hit the front half a furlong out for a cosy success. Placed in the Listed Cecil Frail Stakes last time out, this was Benefit’s third victory from six starts and this progressive filly looks ready to step up into group company now.
Benefit is a homebred out of BOOST (Pivotal), who was twice a winner for Sir Mark Prescott. Benefit’s grand-dam is the Champion 2yo Filly HOORAY (Invincible Spirit), who won the Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes by four-and-a-half lengths. Boost has a yearling filly by Ulysses, a colt foal by Ulysses and she visited Mehmas this year.
