Starman Another Rocket for Dutch Art

Posted on

STARMAN (Dutch Art) announced himself as the top sprinter around with an emphatic victory in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Saturday. David Ward’s homebred was sent off a 9/2 shot for the July Course showpiece following his victory in the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes on seasonal reappearance. Waited with on the near side under Tom Marquand, Starman eventually burst through the pack entering the final furlong and ran on strongly to claim his first Group 1 victory. Trained by Ed Walker, Starman has won five of his six career starts with the only defeat coming on Soft ground in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint last October.

Starman is the fourth Group 1 winner sired by DUTCH ART. He is a half-brother to the Group-placed Sunday Star (Kodiac), out of the Montjeu mare Northern Star, who was purchased on David Ward’s behalf by Ed Sackville for €50,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale in 2011. Starman holds Group 1 entries in the Prix Maurice Du Gheest and the Haydock Sprint Cup.
