QIPCO British Champions Day 2020 was dominated by the phenomenal influence of Pivotal. The headline acts were his sons ADDEYBB and GLEN SHIEL, who triumphed in the Gr. 1 Champion Stakes and Gr. 1 Champions Sprint, respectively. Second in this contest last year, Addeybb was winning his third Group 1 of the year after a successful raid Down Under during the Spring. Meanwhile, GLEN SHIEL became Pivotal’s 32nd individual top flight winner. He is owned by Hambleton Racing who also own Pivotal’s incredibly tough Stakes performer WACTHABLE. Pivotal is also the sire of BRANDO, who was second in the Champions Sprint, and FUJAIRA PRINCE, who was third in the Gr. 2 Long Distance Cup.
Pivotal has been Champion Broodmare Sire in GB & Ireland for the last three seasons and his daughters had several runners on the board during the day. Seven-time Group 1 winner MAGICAL (Galileo) was third in the Champions Stakes, ROSEMAN (Kingman) was a close second in the Gr. 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and William Haggas’s ONE MASTER (Fastnet Rock) was third in the Champions Sprint. Furthermore, THE REVENANT (Dubawi), who won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes for Francis-Henri Graffard, is out of Hazel Lavery, who is by Excellent Art (Pivotal).
