Veracious Fantastic in Falmouth

VERACIOUS (Frankel) delivered a gutsy front-running display to make her breakthrough at Group 1 level in Friday’s Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket’s July Course. The 4-year-old daughter of INFALLIBLE (Pivotal), who finished second in the 2008 Falmouth Stakes, has steadily been coming to hand this season for Sir Michael Stoute and looked better than ever permitted to bowl along at the head of affairs in the hands Oisin Murphy.

PIVOTAL achieved an incredible ten individual Group 1 winners as a broodmare sire in 2018; victory for Veracious takes Pivotal’s tally on that count to five individual Group 1 winners so far in 2019. The Falmouth Stakes result was also notable because the runner-up ONE MASTER (Fastnet Rock), winner of the Group 1 Prix de la Foret in 2018, provided a top flight 1-2 for Pivotal as a broodmare sire. It was a highly successful July Festival for daughters of Pivotal all round as they were responsible for RAFFLE PRIZE (Slade Power), winner of the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, as well as ADVERTISE (Showcasing) and FAIRYLAND (Kodiac), who were second and third, respectively, in the Group 1 July Cup.

Special mention must also go to Veracious’s dam INFALLIBLE, now 14 years old. Winner of her only start as a two-year-old, she returned at three to win on her reappearance in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes.  Sent off 7/2 for the 1000 Guineas, Infallible finished fourth behind Natagora. Consecutive runner-up finishes followed in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes and the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes, before she rounded off her career in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes where she finished fifth against the colts. Infallible has already proved an excellent broodmare, producing Stewards Cup winner INTRINSIC (Oasis Dream), Group 3 Prix de Flore winner INTIMATION (Dubawi), and dual Group 2 Summer Mile winner MUTAKAYYEF (Sea The Stars). However, Veracious’s Falmouth Stakes win delivered that valuable Group 1 success for Infallible as a producer. Infallible currently has a yearling full-brother to Veracious on the ground and is in-foal to Sea The Stars.
