Cheveley Park Stud is delighted to announce the purchase of a majority share in this season’s leading colt ULYSSES, who will take up stallion duties at Cheveley Park Stud in 2018. ULYSSES will stand alongside Dutch Art, Garswood, Intello, Lethal Force, Mayson, Pivotal and Twilight Son.

The colt will continue to race in the colours of his current owner, Flaxman Stables Ireland Ltd, and will remain with Sir Michael Stoute, for the remainder of the year. His next intended start is likely to be the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on 1st October.

Having won the Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood as a 3 year old, ULYSSES has proved a revelation this year, winning two Group 1 races. He won Coral Eclipse Stakes at Sandown, and his finest hour came when cruising to victory in the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York, when comfortably beating the previous Group 1 winners Churchill, Decorated Knight and Barney Roy. This performance earned him an official rating of 127, and makes him the highest rated 10 furlong performer in Europe this season.

ULYSSES boasts an impeccable pedigree being by the great sire, Galileo, out of the Epsom Oaks winner Light Shift (Kingmambo), and is from the immediate family of recent Group 1 winners Cloth Of Stars and Main Sequence.

Cheveley Park Stud Managing Director, Chris Richardson, said; ‘David and Patricia Thompson are delighted to have acquired a significant interest in Ulysses, who certainly adds a notable and exciting element to the portfolio of stallions available at Cheveley Park Stud, for both domestic and international breeders.’

A 2018 fee for ULYSSES will be set at a later date.
