PIVOTAL’s tally of Gr.1 winners as a broodmare sire climbed to 28 at the weekend when MENDOCINO (Adlerflug) finished with a flourish to upset the heavily favoured Torquator Tasso in the Gr.1 152nd Wettstar Grosser Preis von Baden. This was a first top level success for Mendocino, who had finished second to Alpinista here twelve months ago. Stall Salzburg’s four-year-old colt was bred by Gestut Brummerhof from the Pivotal mare Mill Marin. Mendocino is Pivotal’s third Group 1 winner as a damsire so far this season, along with Nashwa (Frankel) and Tenebrism (Caravaggio).
