Selected Mating Plans 2022

Ulysses covered strong books of mares in each of his first four seasons and is fully booked for 2022.

ULYSSES made a most promising start as a sire in 2021, with 17 individual winners from his first crop of 2yos. Given that Ulysses was not at the peak of his powers until the summer of his 4yo season, it augurs particularly well for his stallion prospects that he was able to sire seven first time out 2yo winners. Leading the way amongst his runners is Donnacha O’Brien’s exciting Classic prospect Piz Badile, who was runner-up in the G3 Eyrefield Stakes on just his second start. Cheveley Park Stud will continue to support Ulysses strongly with high calibre mares such as the G1 Matron Stakes winner and G1 producer Echelon. He will also be visited by dual-G2 winner Spacious and the well-bred Pivotal mares Rock Choir and Regal Splendour, who have already both produced Stakes performers by a son of Galileo in Nathaniel.

TWILIGHT SON has made a stellar start as a sire with eight Stakes performers in 2021 epitomised by the admirable G3 winner Twilight Jet. Amongst the Cheveley Park Stud mares set for a date with him in 2022 are the speedy Stakes winners Dance Diva, On Her Toes and Zuhoor Baynoona (a half-sister to Hello Youmzain). Meanwhile, MAYSON enjoyed arguably his best season to date courtesy of major wins for Oxted in the G1 King’s Stand Sprint and Rohaan in the G2 Sandy Lane Stakes. The son of Invincible Spirit continues to be supported by Cheveley Park Stud mares, which will this year include Believable, a winning half-sister to the dam of Veracious.

Veracious, pictured winning the G1 Falmouth Stakes in 2020, is expecting a Dubawi foal and is due to return to Darley's flagbearer this season.

G1 Falmouth Stakes heroine Veracious is carrying a foal by Dubawi and will return to Darley’s flagship stallion this season. She will be joined by the Galileo mares Criteria (a G2 placed full sister to Alice Springs) and Provenance (a daughter of Echelon and dam of promising 3yo New Kingdom). Dual-G1 winner Integral and G3 winner Intimation (a half-sister to Veracious) will also make the trip to Dalham Hall Stud to visit new recruit Palace Pier. In addition, Russian Finale (a daughter of Russian Rhythm and dam of talented filly Bashkirova) is booked to visit Pinatubo. Over at Kildangan Stud, Night of Thunder is set to welcome G3 winner Spangled and Listed winner Perfection, whilst Listed winner Exceptional will visit Blue Point after delivering her first foal by Churchill.

Newly-crowned Champion Sire Frankel’s star-studded dancecard will include last season’s G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes winner Indie Angel, Sacre Caroline (dam of exciting G2 winner Sacred) and Furbelow (dam of Advertise). Fellow Banstead Manor resident Kingman will cover G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Persuasive and G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine Queen’s Trust, who already has a yearling filly by the stallion and is due another foal by him in February. Other mares visiting British-based stallions  include: G2 winner Pilaster (visiting Time Test); Zykina, a daughter of Pivotal and Russian Rhythm (visiting Ardad); Publicise, a Dream Ahead half-sister to Advertise (visiting Mohaather); Credible, a 2yo winner by Pivotal (visiting Zoustar); Entity, a Shamardal daughter of Echelon (visiting Showcasing); and Frolova, a half-sister to Spangled (visiting Study of Man).

Angel Vision (dam of G2 winner Berkshire Shadow) and Listed winner Ladyship (dam of G3 winner Dark Lady) will both be reunited with Dark Angel. Dark Lady herself will visit Tally-Ho stalwart Kodiac along with Praised (a Pivotal half-sister to Alkumait). Mehmas is set to welcome Listed winner Red Box (whose Harry Angel colt topped the 2021 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale) and the winning Pivotal mare Boost (daughter of Champion 2yo Hooray and dam of promising 3yo filly Benefit). Also in Ireland, Dual-Listed winner Cabaletta (daughter of G1 winner Allegretto) is booked to visit New Bay for her maiden cover and European Champion 3yo St Mark’s Basilica will count Tobruk (half-sister to G2 winner King Guillermo and the dam of Starman) amongst his number.
