EARLSWOOD in Derby Picture

Posted on

EARLSWOOD became the 87th individual Group winner for his sire PIVOTAL when taking out the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes at The Curragh in taking fashion on Irish 1,000 Guineas day. Always well placed, Earlswood hit the front under Ben Coen entering the final furlong and was driven out for a convincing success. He is a full-brother to the Chester Cup winner MAKING MIRACLES and the manner in which Earlswood hit the line here suggests that he should have no problem staying a bit further too. Although he holds an entry at Epsom, victory here granted EARLSWOOD passage into the Irish Derby, which may well be the next port of call for this progressive son of Pivotal.

EARLSWOOD was bred by Cheveley Park Stud out of the Group 2 placed mare FIELD OF MIRACLES (Galileo). He was bought as a foal by Bobby O’Ryan for 62,000gns from the Cheveley Park Stud consignment at the Tattersalls December Sale. His current owner, Glyn Davies purchased him for €160,000 from Peter Nolan Bloodstock at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale. Field of Miracles has a yearling full-sister to Earlswood who has been retained.
