The Sir Michael Stoute trained ROMOLA (Pivotal) made her black-type breakthrough in the Pipalong Stakes (Listed) at Pontefract yesterday. Having travelled strongly behind the leaders, the 4yo filly was produced by Ryan Moore to make her challenge over one furlong out and kept on strongly to deliver Cheveley Park Stud back-to-back wins in this race. In fact, since the inaugural running of this contest in 2003, Cheveley Park Stud have taken this prize on four occasions, the other winners being Exhort (2019), Red Bloom (2005) and Chorist (2004).
Romola’s Pipalong victory makes her the 151st stakes winner sired by PIVOTAL, who also made his mark on this event last year as the broodmare sire of Exhort (Dutch Art).
Romola is the only daughter out of the placed mare Dianora (New Approach), whose dam is the homebred Fillies Mile and Falmouth Stakes heroine NANNINA (Medicean).
