Cabaletta Pitch Perfect In Aphrodite

Posted on

CABALETTA (Mastercraftsman) became the fourth consecutive three-year-old to win the Listed Aphrodite Stakes, which was this year run at Newbury rather than Newmarket.  Ridden with restraint by David Egan, Cabaletta made smooth headway from the rear to launch a challenge in the final furlong. The Roger Varian-trained grey responded generously for pressure and comfortably reeled in the favourite, Lady G, to win going away at the line. Notably, the three preceding winners of this contest all went on to score at Group 2 level or higher.

Cabaletta was the winner of a Yarmouth maiden on her sole two-year-old start, where she beat the subsequent Ribblesdale Stakes victrix, Frankly Darling. On her seasonal reappearance, Cabaletta gained minor black-type when second in the Listed Abingdon Stakes behind the talented Franconia. Cabaletta could now possibly head to the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, a race Cheveley Park Stud won with PILASTER (Nathaniel) in 2018.

Cabaletta is a homebred daughter and sixth foal out of the top-class racemare ALLEGRETTO (Galileo). Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Allegretto won the G1 Prix Royal-Oak, G2 Goodwood Cup, G2 Henry II Stakes, G2 Park Hill Stakes and the G2 Lancashire Oaks. Allegretto has a yearling colt by ALMANZOR and a colt foal by PIVOTAL at foot.
