Cheveley Park Stud owned and bred VERACIOUS deservedly got her head in front to win the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown on Saturday. The daughter of FRANKEL, out of the Group 1 placed mare INFALLIBLE (Pivotal) has been knocking on the door of Group 1 company since her belated seasonal debut in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, when finishing third to the impressive Alpha Centauri.
The Sir Michael Stoute trained filly then finished third in the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, before stepping back in trip and class to comfortably gain her first Stakes victory this weekend under Ryan Moore, who commented: “She’s a really nice filly, she’s run well in two Group Ones and a stronger pace would have suited her better.
“I was in front earlier than I would have wanted, but she can only win and there was a bit left in the tank at the end.
Cheveley Park Stud’s Chris Richardson also commented: “You are always nervous before such races, things didn’t really pan out as we might have wished, but she is a Group 3 winner now.
“Whatever she does this year I’m sure she’ll be even better next year.”
“We’ll talk to Sir Michael, but there’s a certain filly called Alpha Centauri around, so we’ll see where she goes. I wouldn’t discount the top Group Ones later in the year.”
VERACIOUS also adds to PIVOTAL’s ever increasing list of Stakes winners as broodmare sire.
