Lightning Spear shows his true colours winning the Celebration Mile

Owner – Qatar Racing Ltd.

Breeder – Newsells Park Stud

Trainer – David Simcock

Sitting off the pace the handsome looking 5yo Lightning Spear stalked the leaders before being brought with a decisive run inside the final furlong to win the Celebration Mile (Gr.2) at Goodwood. This son of Pivotal has always threatened to be a useful sort but has taken time to find his real strength but should now become one of the main milers around.

The Cheveley Park Stud’s Zonderland ran another race of credit when he finished second in the prestigous prize. The son of Dutch Art is improving with every race and will be a real force next year when he gets his full strength.

Another 5yo son of Pivotal has also improved to win a good race on the same card at Goodwood, when the Cheveley Park Stud homebred Certificatewon the Heritage Revival Handicap Stakes. Always close up, Roger Varian’s charge was the likely winner from a long way out and will now no doubt contest pattern races.
