Another Group 1 win for Twilight Son

Trainer – Henry Candy

In what was one of the most memorable races of Royal Ascot 2106, Twilight Son got his head in front of a blanket finish for the prestigious Group 1Diamond Jubilee Stakes. The race, run in slow early fractions, turned into literally a sprint to the line where many had chances but the son of Kyllachywanted it more and stuck his head out for a courageous win. Jockey Ryan Moore reported that Twilight Son ‘travelled very strongly and I always felt when I asked him he would go and win’. He added ‘When I rode him last year he felt like a very good horse and he had obviously taken a while to come to hand this year, but Mr. Candy was very confident about him. He’s done little wrong and the pace wasn’t strong enough for him – he’d be better if they were going quicker’.

This was the colts second win in Group 1 company and will now go on and compete in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket in July.

This completed a very satisfactory couple of days for the Cheveley Park Stud stalwart Kyllachy, whose 3yo son Kachy, was an unlucky loser in the Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) at Royal Ascot. He was only beaten one length and would have been much closer had he not veered across the track. His time will come.
