Twilight Son to retire to Cheveley Park Stud in 2017.

Cheveley Park Stud are delighted to announce that the dual Group 1 winning sprinter, TWILIGHT SON, has retired from racing and will take up stallion duties at Cheveley Park Stud in 2017, where he will stand alongside his sire Kyllachy, as well as Dutch Art, Garswood, Lethal Force, Mayson, Medicean and Pivotal.

Trained by Henry Candy, TWILIGHT SON was unbeaten in his first five starts which culminated in an impressive victory, in what was his first run at Group level, in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock, in doing so he beat the previous Group 1 winners Belardo, G Force, Tiggy Wiggy and Gordon Lord Byron. His first taste of defeat came on his next outing when finishing a highly creditable second to Muhaarar, in the Group 1 QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes. His finest hour this year came when battling to victory in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he yet again displayed a willing and tenacious attitude to get the better of Group 1 winners The Tin Man, Signs Of Blessing and Undrafted in a driving finish.

Bred by Mrs Caroline Wilson, TWILIGHT SON is by Cheveley Park Stud resident KYLLACHY, who is enjoying another fine season on the track with his progeny, having already had over 100 individual winners. He is out of the winning mare TWILIGHT MISTRESS, and half brother to the classy Group 3 winning and Group 1 placed sprinter MUSIC MASTER.

Cheveley Park Stud Managing Director, Chris Richardson, said; ““Twilight Son is a hugely talented, beautifully bred, imposing individual, very like his sire Kyllachy, who I feel offers both commercial and owner breeders, a very exciting opportunity for their mares.  The addition of Twilight Son, further enhances the portfolio of stallions, currently standing at Cheveley Park Stud and continues to reflect David and Patricia Thompson’s huge commitment to the international world of racing and breeding.  We are most grateful to have been involved with Twilight Son’s breeders, Caroline and Godfrey Wilson, and of course to have been re-associated with trainer Henry Candy, who has done a fantastic job guiding Twilight Son throughout his highly successful career”.

Trainer Henry Candy commented; “Twilight Son was a pleasure to train.  He was a very relaxed horse.  He never took a lame step and never left an oat.”

A fee for TWILIGHT SON will be announced at a later date.

First mares in foal to Twilight Son.

TWILIGHT SON, dual Group 1 winner and leading sprinter of 2016, has taken to stallion duties extremely well, and has not surprisingly, been strongly supported in his first season at stud.  As part of Cheveley Park Stud’s policy of supporting its own stallions, TWILIGHT SON has been patronised by a selection of mares from the stud’s high quality broodmare band, as well as by many other leading European breeders.

Cheveley Park Stud Managing Director, Chris Richardson said; ‘I am delighted Twilight Son has started the stud season so promisingly, having had the first three mares bred to him, scanned in foal.  Having impressed at the highest level as a racehorse, Twilight Son continues to be the ultimate professional.  In this competitive business, we are very grateful to our friends and breeders for their support and we, like them, are excited by the potential he offers the breeding and racing industry in the future’.

Mares visiting TWILIGHT SON in 2017 include the dams of Stakes’ winners Sole Power, Penitent, Tariq, Aetna and Supplicant. He is also set to cover the Stakes’ winners Soar, Firenze, and Geesala.
