NEWS 25th July 2010 The Luca Cumani trained Mabait dead heated with the multiple Group winning Rio de la Palta in the competitive Pomfret Stakes at Pontefract to register his first black type success. Just in behind the leaders, he quickened up really well and got up to land this Listed event on the line. The Clive Ashby bred Kyllachy colt is a most progressive individual and hasn't stopped improving yet.
18th July 2010 The Pivotal colt BUZZWORD wins the Deutsches Derby. The Darley homebred Buzzword came with a sustained and determined run to capture the Group 1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg. The son of Pivotal showed the true characteristics wanted by a horse to win a Classic race of it's generation. Travelling just off the pace Buzzword took up the running with 2 furlongs to go and was never threatened and stayed on most resolutely. In winning this he became the eighteenth son or daughter of Pivotal to win at the highest level. Later in the afternoon, the Aston House Stud owned Rebecca Rolfe won the Listed Gran Premio Citta di Napoli to become that latest stakes winner for Pivotal.
17th July 2010 Regal Parade, who won the Haydock Park Sprint last season came back to form with a really impressive win in the Group 3 Shadwell Stakes at Newbury. The son of Pivotal who was dropped out behind the remainder of the field, came with a swooping run to put the race beyond doubt with over a furlong to run. He looks in very good form and should have another fruitful autumn campaign.
3rd July 2010 Virginia Hall, a three year old filly owned and bred by the Limestone Stud, made all to be a most impressive 3 lengths winner of the Coral Distaff at Sandown. Making all, the Sir Mark Prescott trained Medicean filly was never in danger and won the Listed prize. Meanwhile in France Emerald Commander won the Group 3 Prix Daphnis at Longchamp. Bred by Grangecon Stud, the now Darley owned son of Pivotal was travelling just off the pace and stayed on strongly to win this prize with a certain amount of authority. He should continue to race with distinction.
26th June 2010 Turning Top became the latest Group 3 winner for Pivotal when she won the Beverly Hill Handicap at Hollywood Park. Owned by Michael Tabor, this Barouche Stud bred filly has really improved of late and will now be moved up to Grade 1 company. She remains an exciting prospect.
25th June 2009 The Norman Ormiston owned, Irish National Stud bred Seeharn, became the first stakes winning juvenile in 2010 for Pivotal, when she won the Listed Ballygallon Stud Stakes, at the Curragh. Sat just off the pace she quickened up impressively to put this Listed prize to bed readily, and looks a very good prospect. Meanwhile in France the Medicean colt Manhaj, made an impressive winning debut at Maisons-Laffitte. He looks a colt with a future.
24th June 2009 Sara Leigh's homebred filly SETA became the latest Pivotal stakes winner when she easily won the Listed 7 furlongs Racecourse Warwick Pub & Restaurant Eternal Stakes at Warwick. She showed a good turn of foot and in a style which suggests that she will continue to improve for some time yet. Group races await her. In third place was Dever Dream, a Medicean filly who is another going the right way.
30th May 2010 Six of Hearts continued his rise up the ladder of the Irish trained sprinters when he won the Group 3 Vodafone Ireland Foundation supports Gaisce Ballychorus Stakes at Leopardstown. Sat in behind the leaders early on this son of Pivotal was brought with a steady run to hit the front in the final furlong to win a shade cosily.
29th May 2010 Mr Medici becomes the sixth Group 1 winner for Medicean. The ultra consistent Mr Medici stayed on most willingly to win the Group 1 Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup at Sha Tin. The son of Medicean has been placed in many Group 1 races in the past and this was just reward for the patience of all his connections.
28th May 2010 The Normandie Stud owned and bred Fallen Idol, becomes the 80th individual stakes winner for his sire Pivotal, when he won the Listed Britain's Got Talent Bingo At meccabingo.com Heron Stakes at Sandown. With no early pace the John Gosden trained colt was ridden off the pace but was brought with a successful late run to win this prize on the line. This was only the colts third win in as many starts and he continues going the right way. He will now attempt Group races now and is a horse to keep an eye on.
27th March 2010 One - Two for sons of Medicean in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free. The Cheveley Park Stud resident stallion Medicean has started the year off at a blistering pace and this was underlined when he saddled the first two home in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free at Meydan, Dubai. Travelling well off a slow early pace the Minister Stud bred Al Shemali showed a good turn of foot to soon have the race in safe keeping and stayed on well over this 9 furlong tuff course. Staying on well in second place was the very reliable and consistent Bankable. Back in England, the first leg of the 'Spring Double' the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster, was easily won by the Cheveley Park Stud homebred Penitent. Travelling just of the early pace, the William Haggas trained son of Kyllachy, quickened up well with just over 2 furlongs to go to put the contest beyond reach of the other 20 runners. Surely, he will contest for black type next time.
21st March 2010 With the new British flat season fast approaching, the Cheveley Park Stud resident stallion Medicean, continues to have a fine set of results. Today his son Mr Medici won Group 3 Premier Plate over 9 furlongs at Sha Tin, Hong Kong. Meanwhile in Ireland, another of his sons Big Robert, won the Irish Lincolnshire at the Curragh. These follow an easy victory for another son of Medicean at Lingfield the previous day, when Capponi made a highly impressive debut winning a maiden easily by nearly 4 lengths. This Mark Johnston trained 3yo is one to keep an eye on.
19th December 2009 NOORDHOEK FLYER wins the Cape Guineas. The Mary Slack Bred, Lady Laidlaw owned Pivotal colt Noordhoek Flyer won the Group 1, R1,000,000 Cape Guineas with a decisive turn of foot. Running only for the sixth time, this colt is improving with his races and should prove to be a top horse in South Africa this season..
8th November 2009 Neatico became the latest Group winner for his sire Medicean, when winning the Group 3 Grosser Bombadier-Vossloch Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen at Krefeld. This mile contest is always a good pointer to next years Classics and Neatico won this race with authority. He is one to note in 2010.
1st November 2009 Emerald Commander, a two year old son of Pivotal, ran with great distinction when runner up in the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud. He was unable to catch the leader who dictated the pace throughout on this heavy ground but was comfortably second best with a late run. His form this season has looked most progressive and he should be a colt with a future when representing the Godolphin team next year.
27th October 2009 Making his debut, the Cheveley Park Stud homebred juvenile colt Commissionaire, won the 1st Division of the EBF Maiden Stakes at Yarmouth. He became the latest of a highly promising crop of two year olds by Medicean, who go into winter quarters appearing capable of a very good classic year in 2010. Other to have won recently are Meerzan, Racy & Spoken in England, Muhtaker in France and Neatico in Germany. All look capable of much better and it could be a a lot of fun.
17th October 2009 The Jeremy Noseda trained Arabian Gleam came right back to his best to win a very competitive Victor Chandler Challenge Stakes at Newmarket. This Group 2 event over 7 furlongs always provides a good finish and the son of Kyllachy never looked likely to be caught through the closing stages. The winner bred by Mr. & Mrs. Paul Venner is an admirable racehorse and has been a good servant.
4th October 2009 Siyouni wins the Prix Jean-Luc Lagadere to become Pivotal's 4th Group 1 winner of the year. H.H. The Aga Khan has another top class runner in the shape of his homebred Pivotal colt, Siyouni who is now beginning to realise the huge potential he showed earlier in the year. He comfortably won the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagadere at Longchamp. Coming from just off the pace, the colt was always travelling well and took up the running entering the final furlong and never looked like being caught. He is a very exciting horse for the future and could well be the Leading Two Year Old colt in France for 2009.
16th September 2009 Bankable trained by Gary Moore, showed that he has retained all his ability in an easy win in the Fortune Stakes run at Sandown. This Listed event was soon put to bed when Bankable took up the running entering the final furlong to win how he wanted. This son of Medicean has earned some Group placing's before and seems sure to build on an already impressive C.V.
5th / 6th August 2009 What a weekend for the Cheveley Park Stud flag bearer Pivotal. Firstly, Regal Parade became his 14th individual Group 1 winner when showing great desire in winning the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock. Coming from well off the pace he showed real courage to want to win this prestigious prize for the Dandy Nicholls stable. Pivotal also sired the winners of two Group 3 events. The Aiden O'Brien trained Poet made all and won easily when taking the Kilternan Stakes at Leopardstown. He is also very tough after having had his fourth run in just over 3 weeks and is improving at a rapid rate presently and will prove competitive wherever he goes next. Buzzword representing the Godolphin team won the Group 3 prize for juveniles the Prix La Rochette at Longchamp, beating another son of Pivotal in Siyouni. They both stayed on very well and are very likely to have futures. Emerald Commander from the powerful Richard Hannon stable of two year olds showed he is very much going the right was with an impressive win in the Listed Betfred Ascendant Stakes at Haydock. He looks set to contest one of the big autumn prizes. Pivotal also provided two Group 1 placing when Cheveley Park Stud homebred's Heaven Sent and Virtual finished second in the Coolmore Matron Stakes at Leopardstown and third in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp respectively.
18th August 2009 POET, bred by Meon Valley Stud and trained by Aiden O'Brien was a very worthy winner of the Listed Vincent O'Brien Memorial Ruby Stakes at Killarney. In doing so, he became the 73rd Stakes winner for Pivotal. Always in the van he was asked to quicken 3 furlongs from home and never looked likely to to be caught. This was all the more rewarding as he only ran 48 hrs before when third at the Curragh in the Gr.3 Desmond Stakes. Earlier in the afternoon, the always informative Gr.3 Acomb Stakes was contested at York. The Pivotal colt Emerald Commander ran a cracking race to finish second beaten a head by the winner Elusive Pimpernel.
16th August 2009 The Cheveley Park Stud homebred colt VIRTUAL ran a cracking race when third to the Champion Miler elect GOLDIKOVA at Deauville in the Group 1 Prix du Haras de Fresnay-Le-Buffard Jacques Le Marois. On faster ground than ideal for the son of Pivotal, he ran a smashing race and will strip fitter for his next likely target the Prix du Moulin next month. The Celbridge Estates bred filly GIROUETTE (Pivotal) won the Patrick P. O'Leary Memorial Phoenix Sprint at the Curragh. This filly has really improved of late and won this Group 3 event showing great determination.
12th July 2009 Sariska easily wins the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh. The Lady Bamford owned and bred Sariska was an effortless winner of the Group 1 Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh. The Michael Bell trained Pivotal 3yo filly followed the pace until asked to challenge for the lead when they passed the furlong pole and she strode to a facile Classic win, the like not seen very often on European racecourses. She is clearly the best middle distance 3yo filly of her generation and will no doubt be taking on her elders next time. She will be hard to beat.
11th July 2009 The Dandy Nicholls trained Regal Parade became the 71st stakes winner for Pivotal when he won the Listed totepool City Plate at Chester. This Highclere Stud bred 5yo has been an ultra consistent horse over the past couple of seasons and deserved this first stakes success. He is a very versatile performer and more black type must be around the the corner.
17th June 2009 On a memorable day for Cheveley Park Stud, the homebred fillies Spacious (Nayef) and Heaven Sent (Pivotal) finished first and second in the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes, at Royal Ascot. Always in the front rank the two fillies had this prize between them from along way out and ran all the way to the line to be separated by a length with 3 lengths back to the third. The Cheveley Park Stud's stalwart stallion Pivotal faired better when later on in the card, Moneycantbuymelove won the very competitive Listed Sandringham Handicap. Coming from behind she quickened up well to win this prize by 2 lengths. Earlier in the afternoon at Maisons-Laffitte, the Aga Khan homebred two year old colt Siyouni, chalked up his third win in as many starts when easily winning the Listed Prix La Fleche by 3 lengths. The son of Pivotal became the sires 70th individual Stakes winner. He has speed to burn and will contest the Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin on his next visit to the track.
5th June 2009 Pivotal's daughter Sariska, wins the Investec Oaks at Epsom. The Lady Bamford homebred filly Sariska showed her class when she won the highly prestigious Gr.1 Investec Oaks Stakes at Epsom. This daughter of Pivotal trained in Newmarket by Michael Bell, quickened up nicely to lead 2 furlongs from home and was always doing enough to win. She has progressed at a fast rate and as this was only her fourth start, one can expect to see further improvement in this lovely filly. She is definitely one to watch throughout the remainder of the season. For good measure, a son of Pivotal won the supporting Surrey Stakes at Epsom. Ocean's Minstrel made all of the 7 furlongs to win this Listed prize comfortably. He could well go on to contest the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot and on this showing could well play a hand in the finish.
21st May 2009 The Michael Bell trained trained Moneycantbuymelove, won the Listed Height of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood when she showed a nice turn of foot to come from last place in this 9 runner field. This Pivotal filly, bred by Eurostrait Ltd. is showing herself to be most progressive and should now compete into Group company.
16th May 2009 Virtual wins the Group 1 Juddmonte Lockinge. Travelling just off a good pace throughout this Group 1 contest, the Cheveley Park Stud homebred colt Virtual improved to gain his best victory to date when he saw off all comers in winning the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury over 1 mile. The highly progressive son of standard bearer stallion Pivotal, showed great tenacity to win this good prize and will now be aimed for the prestigious Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in July.
13th May 2009 Sariska wins the Musidora and heads Oaks market. The Daylesford Stud hombred Pivotal filly Sariska, was always prominent during the Group 3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York and quickened away impressively to win by nearly 4 lengths. She now is favourite for the Investec Oaks to be run at Epsom next month, and rightly so, as it appears she will stay very well and she has a good turn of foot. Meanwhile over at Naas, Jim Bolger released a two year old filly named Kitty Kiernan in the 5 furlongs maiden. Quickly away, she was always in control and won nicely. This Pivotal filly could be Royal Ascot bound.
4th May 2009 The word before the Prix des Nouveautes at Longchamp this afternoon was that the unraced Aga Khan homebred two year old colt Siyouni was fairly smart, and so it proved. The son of Pivotal was never in trouble and was very impressive chalking up his first win. The owner and trainer, Alain De Royer-Dupre have always been impressed with this colt and are very hopeful for a successful career. Watch this space......
3rd May 2009 Heaven Sent wins the Gr.3 Dahlia Stakes.........again. The Cheveley Park Stud homebred mare Heaven Sent won the Gr.3 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket on her 2009 debut very cosily. The daughter of Pivotal who relishes fast ground quickened up decisively just over 2 furlongs from home to win with authority. She will hopefully go on to Royal Ascot hoping to go one place better than 2008, when she finished runner up in the Gr.2 Windsor Forest Stakes.
4th April 2009 Ocean's Minstrel's Listed win is no fluke. Only the winner of a lowly maiden before this step up to Listed class, but there was no fluke about the way the 3yo Pivotal colt Ocean's Minstrel won the International Trial Stakes at Lingfield over 1 mile. Slowly away he was hustled up to lead after a furlong and set a decent pace and quickened up entering the short straight to win nicely. He never looked in any danger. Like the majority of his sires progeny he has improved markedly from two to three years and looks a decent prospect.
18th March 2009 Mafaaz wins the Kentucky Derby Trial at Kempton. Making only his third start, the Medicean colt Mafaaz won the Kentucky Derby Challenge Stakes at Kempton won a smooth performance. After being slowly out of the gate he showed a good attitude and willingness to win this competitive event nicely. He can only improve again and could well take his place in the Grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland en route to a possible tilt at the 'Run for the Roses' in early May. He is an exciting horse and like most of his sires progeny really enjoys the synthetic surfaces.
22nd February 2009 Dim Sum becomes Kyllachy's First Group 1 winner. Dim Sum (bred by W.J. Caley) showed that he has improved with age when winning the Group 1d Chairman's Sprint Prize at Sha Tin over 7 furlongs. Always handy in this top field, Dim Sum quickened really well 2 furlongs from home and held off the strong efforts of the top class Enthused & Sacred Kingdom. In winning this, Dim Sum became the first Group 1 winner for his sire Kyllachy. Coming from the first crop of the son of Pivotal, he joins the likes of Arabian Gleam and Tariq showing that Kyllachy has now arrived as a sire of huge standing.
