11th May 2008

Pivotal's son Falco flies home in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains.

The Wertheimer et Frere homebred colt Falco, was very impressive when winning the Poule d'Essai des Poulains at Longchamp today. After stalking the leaders throughout the early stages of the contest, he quickened immediately to win the prestigious Group 1 prize by a comfortable 3 lengths. This fine colt, a son of leading sire Pivotal, is only now learning his trade and will continue to improve . His next start will either be the St James Palace Stakes or the Prix du Jockey Club, but wherever he goes next he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Pivotal completed his great day when Halfway to Heaven stayed on strongly to finish third in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches at Longchamp. Always in the front rank she stuck on really well and is another that seems to be improving with every race.

Kyllachy nearly completed a marvellous day when his son Mood Music ran a very game second in the Group 3 Prix de Saint-Georges, at Longchamp. He must be winning another Stakes winner in waiting.

10th May 2008

Cartimandua, bred by Brent & Fiona Williams, was carrying a winning penalty for this her seasonal bow, and put up and extremely promising performance when winning the Listed Kilvington Fillies' Stakes at Nottingham over 6 furlongs. Following the early pace this daughter of Medicean shot clear entering the final furlong and never looked in any danger. She really has an explosive turn of foot and is up to challenging for Group races later in the season. Third in this race was Bearstone Stud's Kyllachy filly Day By Day who won the race on the near side of the track and stayed on well to finish third. Liking this much better ground this filly has also improved and is up to gaining an elusive Stakes win in due course.

Kyllachy also had another Stakes placed filly when Kylayne finished third in the Chartwell Fillies Stakes, Lingfield, Group 3. Showing her blistering early pace, she stayed on well to be just outpointed by two good French trained fillies. Her turn will come, as she doesn't know how to run a bad race.

3rd May 2008

Heaven Sent improves again.

The Cheveley Park Stud homebred Heaven Sent nearly made all of the running in the Stan James sponsored Dahlia Stakes over the straight Newmarket 9 furlongs, to record her first win in Group 3 company. The daughter to Pivotal is going from strength to strength and will be upped in class again next time, possibly going to Royal Ascot for the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes.

16th April 2008

Infallible easily wins the Nell Gwyn.

The Cheveley Park Stud homebred filly Infallible came from last to first in a stunning display to win the Group 3 Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket this afternoon. Showing real speed the daughter of Pivotal flew down the outside of the 14 runner field to win by an ever widening 3½ lengths. She now goes for the 1000 Guineas. Watch this space...

Later in the afternoon another Cheveley Park Stud homebred Virtual make all to record his first victory in the 7 furlong maiden. Always going well this 3 parts brother to the Cheveley Park Stud stallion Iceman, won well and will have no doubt in staying further. Being a mid May foal he will improve again and could be another to keep an eye on.

12th April 2008

Pivotal Hat-Tick of Stakes Winners.

Pivotal continued the fantastic start he has made to the new season when three horses all won their first Stakes races at Kempton. Firstly the Cheveley Park Stud homebred Heaven Sent won the Listed Snowdrop Stakes. Poorly drawn she raced around the outside of this field but showed her class when quickening nicely inside the final two furlongs to win cosily. She will now contest Group races.

Il Warrd became a live prospect for the French 2000 Guineas when drawing away readily to win the Listed Easter Stakes in a quick time. This strong looking colt nearly made all to win with authority and looks to have a good career ahead of him.

Jazz Jam showed great tenacity to win the Listed Masaka Stakes. In a much more tactical affair she repelled all comers and stayed on well. She could well stay further and will now contest Group races.

27th March 2008

Racing at Saint-Cloud today produced two very impressive winners of the respective colts and fillies mile maidens for unraced three year olds. Both are sired by the Cheveley Park Stud's flagship stallion Pivotal. Firstly, the Andre Fabre trained, Haras de la Perelle owned and bred Caesarine won the fillies event by and easy 3 lengths and later the Wertheimer et Frere homebred Wifi trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias, won the colts race by 2½ lengths. Both are sure to improve for the experience and will hopefully be contesting for black type very soon.

24th March 2008

The Where Or When filly Trip To Glory trotted up to win the Listed Prix La Camargo at Saint-Cloud. She now contests the Group 1 Pirx des Pouliches in her next start and she seems to be improving markedly. Watch this space, there is more to come.

15th March 2008

Still not yet into the 2008 (turf) racing season, but the Cheveley Park Stallions appear to be set for another major year. The first Group 3 race of the season saw the Pivotal filly Silver Pivotal run a smashing race to finish a fast finishing second behind the proven Group performer Hattan. She, like many Pivotals appear to be improving with age and a good season ahead looks likely.

Where Or When had another winner when his son Summer Winds won on his reappearance at Lingfield. On only his second start he showed vastly improved form and won a shade cosily. He should continue to improve.

6th December 2007

CHEVELEY PARK STUD voted Leading Owner of 2007.

After possibly our best year to date, Cheveley Park Stud was voted the Weatherbys Owner of the Year at the annual Racehorse Owners Association/Racing Post Horse of the Year Awards. Beating an array of racing dignitaries this was a marvellous award from two bodies that speak for the whole of the horseracing business. It made a good year into a special year.

6th December 2007

NIFTY FIFTY!

SOFT MORNING became the 50th Stakes winner by her sire Pivotal, when making all to win the Listed Prix Petite Etoile at Deauville today. Rather fittingly she is trained by Pivotal's famed handler, Sir Mark Prescott and it appears that she is still improving.

In achieving this landmark, Pivotal reached 50 in a faster time than such stallion stars as Green Desert, Machiavellian, Selkirk and Zafonic.

25th November 2007

MEDICI CODE (Medicean) has proved to be an exciting addition to the Californian racing scene and still seems to be improving. He was placed second in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby ay Hollywood Park, coming very fast and late off a slowish pace and under a more positive ride could well have won. If he had of won, he would have become the fourth Group/Grade 1 winner from the first two crops of Medicean who is firmly cementing himself as a top class stallion.

3rd November 2007

Just a very quick comment about the bet365 E B F Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Div II) run at Newmarket. It was won by a very promising filly in the shape of INFALLIBLE, owned and bred by Cheveley Park Stud. The Pivotal filly showed a really capable turn of foot on her debut and is certainly one to keep an eye on.

27th October 2007

One of the main ingredients you need to win top races is luck, and the Cheveley Park Stud bred EXCELLENT ART has had very little of this throughout the 2007 season. This was again the case when lining up for the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Mile at the very tight Monmouth Park course. Drawn on the wide outside, and on his unfavoured soft ground, he was restrained during the early part of the race and had to be brought very wide to deliver his challenge and failed by a length to get home in front. An admirable, consistent colt EXCELLENT ART has proved yet again how tough progeny of Pivotal are.

21st October 2007

The Preis der Winterkonigin is generally believed to be the best race for two year old fillies to be run in Germany. There seems to be no argument again this year and it produced a sparkling display by the Medicean filly, LOVE ACADEMY owned and bred by the Gestüt Hof Ittlingen. After missing the break, this filly trailed the field until halfway but showed real acceleration to win the prestigious Group 3 prize with real authority. She looks a real prospect for next year.

The filly who ran well to finish third, was the winner's stablemate BRISEIDA. She stayed on very encouragingly and looks another sure fire stakes winner in the making for her sire Pivotal.

19th October 2007

Always a competitive contest, this years running of the Georgia House Stud Darley Stakes, proved no disappointment. WINDSOR KNOT who is a very consistent runner, went one place better than in 2006 when winning this prize by 3/4 length. Always close up this son of Pivotal, stayed on very well to gain another Group 3 prize.

6th October 2007

The juvenile colt DUBAI DYNAMO became the latest Stakes winner for Kyllachy when he showed great tenacity to lead the prestigious totesport6 Two Year Old Trophy throughout. He stayed on very stoutly never to be threatened in this Listed event and should continue to go the right way.

29th September 2007

EXCELLENT ART ran another good race to just be denied when finishing second in the prestigious Group 1, unofficial Mile Championship Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot today. Making his customary late surge and just failed to get to the winner, but the Cheveley Park Stud bred son of Pivotal again showed what pace he has at his disposal.

15th September 2007

Kyllachy sired his second Group 2 winner of the season when ARABIAN GLEAM won the GNER Park Stakes, at Doncaster. Showing a good turn of foot and great tenacity he beat a good field in a fast time. Clearly going the right way the colt could well progress further and is one to watch very closely.

11th August 2007

MEDICI CODE easily wins a Grade 2 in California.

After MEDICI CODE won three races easily on the all weather here in England during the early Winter of 2007, Herrick Racing Llc. purchased the colt and relocated him in California. Given plenty of time by new trainer Darrell Vienna, the son of Medicean put in his best performance to date when easily winning the Grade 2 La Jolla Handicap at Del Mar. Loving the fast ground he won easily and is now a leading fancy for the upcoming Del Mar Derby. Watch this space, there is more to come....

31st July 2007

TARIQ wins the Group 2 Betfair Cup.

Switched off throughout the early part of the race TARIQ came with his now customary late thrust to win the Group 2 Betfair Cup (Lennox Stakes) at Goodwood. The son of Cheveley Park Stud's resident Kyllachy is improving very quickly and has to be feared where he runs next. Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam believes he could go to the top.

26th July 2007

FARSIGHTED became a winner from the first crop of Where Or When, when she won the Minster Jaguar Maiden Auction Fillies' Stakes at York. She made all the running of this 7 furlongs contest and won cosily. The Gr.1 winning son of Danehill Dancer was also represented by BOSCO MARKET who finished second in an allowance race at Siracuso, Italy.

RED DIADEM became the 48th Stakes winner for Pivotal, when she won the Listed Daisycutter Handicap at Del Mar. She showed a great turn of foot to win this 5 furlong event.

14th July 2007

The much improved CESARE, a Cheveley Park Stud home bred son of Machiavellian, showed a tremendous turn of foot and lots of courage when he won the Group 2 Sony Summer Stakes at Ascot. Travelling very well off a decent pace, he was nearly stopped in his tracks but was able to be switched inside the final furlong to come home a rather cosy winner at the line. To complete a great race for Cheveley Park Stud, was that another homebred HEAVEN SENT finished strongly into third place. The daughter of Pivotal must surely be Stakes winner in waiting after three good efforts.

13th July 2007

DUTCH ART, the dual Group 1 winning son of Medicean who will stand at Cheveley Park Stud when he retires from racing, ran a memorable race when second the the prestigious Group 1 Darley July Cup. Shuffled back early on when impeded by other horses, Dutch Art found himself in last place of the 18 runner field but exploded forward when he hit the rising ground and can be considered an unlucky loser when he finished second, going down by only a half a length at the line.

20th June 2007

The Cheveley Park Stud Stallions continue to have a good week at Royal Ascot. The second season sire Kyllachy sired the winner of the prestigious Group 3 Jersey Stakes, when TARIQ won with a devastating turn of foot that took him past the whole field to land this 7 furlong prize. Bred by David Botterill, Tariq is improving at a rapid rate and will no doubt be a strong contender in future starts. Staying on well into third was Arabian Gleam who is another son of Kyllachy. This was only his third start and is another who will surely pay to watch in future months.

The Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes was won in emphatic fashion by NANNINA, who quite simply outclassed this good field of fillies. With a turn of foot that took her clear over a furlong out, the daughter of Medicean was never in trouble and won by an easy 3 lengths. She will be stepped up in trip now and will contest either the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh or the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood next time.

19th June 2007

EXCELLENT ART becomes the latest Group 1 winner for Pivotal.

With a run that took him from last to first, EXCELLENT ART stepped up on his previous form when he took the historic St. James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Ridden with restraint early on, he was produced between horses and showed a powerful turn of foot to land this Group 1 prize. This race is universally seen as the biggest test for three year old miler colts which brought together the winners of the English, Irish and French Guineas and the Cheveley Park Stud bred son of Pivotal can now be considered as one of the best colts in Europe.

In winning this, EXCELLENT ART became the 10th individual Group 1 winner for Pivotal and looks a most exciting prospect for the remainder of the season.

17th June 2007

Stakes winner number 47 for Pivotal.

NICK'S NIKITA was a most emphatic winner of the Group 3 Noblesse Stakes at Cork. She has been progressing very well since last season and deserved this success, her first in Group company. Well ridden by jockey Rory Cleary, the Pivotal filly was always in the hunt and stayed on very strongly to beat some good fillies with style.

9th June 2007

CARTIMANDUA ruled Northern Britain in the 1st Century AD but her namesake led the procession when she easily won the Listed Timeform Silver Salver at Haydock today. The three year old filly by Medicean was always up with the pace and quickened away well and scored by a very impressive 4 lengths against some very good fillies. She is improving at a rapid rate and will next contest a Group race and like the afore mentioned Queen, has to be respected wherever she goes.

Cheveley Park Stud resident stallion Kyllachy sired another two juvenile winners in the form of DUBAI DYNAMO at Goodwood and NACHO LIBRE at Windsor, who is on course for a crack at the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot next week. Kyllachy has now sired six individual two year old winners this season. There will be more to come.

3rd June 2007

On the Derby Weekend that we saw AUTHORIZED and LAWMAN take their respective Derby's in England and France, perhaps the most impressive performance was that of BEAUTY IS TRUTH winning the Group 2 Prix du Gros-Chene over 5 furlongs at Deauville. This daughter of Pivotal is only a three year old  and to beat the seasoned sprinters in the way she did was outstanding. She won by a very easy 2½ lengths and has to be a filly to keep an eye on in all top sprints this season.

26th May 2007

TARIQ became the latest stakes winner for the resident Cheveley Park Stud stallion Kyllachy, when he won the Darian Homes King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket. He showed a really good turn of foot to win this with authority. This Listed event has recently become a good indicator for Royal Ascot and With luck this Peter Chapple-Hyam trained colt will now contest the Jersey Stakes.

Later in the afternoon, HEAVEN SENT finished second in the Group 3 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes at the Curragh. Contesting a Stakes race for the first time, this Pivotal filly ran with real promise and narrowly failed to land this prize but in doing so she beat no less than 6 stakes winners. She is progressing very well and a black type win must surely be on the cards for this sister to the multiple Group 1 winning filly, Megahertz.

17th May 2007

SILVER PIVOTAL became the 46th Stakes winner for her sire Pivotal when winning the Listed Michael Seeley Memorial Stakes at York this afternoon. This progressive filly needed every yard of this mile trip to get on top of a couple of promising fillies and looks as if she is a most smart individual. This Stratford Place Stud bred filly is to be aimed at the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot for her next start.

13th May 2007

DANAK completed a very good week for his sire Pivotal, when he won the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown. This unbeaten Aga Khan homebred colt, showed speed and courage to win this contest and he looks to be very progressive. He will come on again for this and could contest the Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Pivotal also sired the runner-up in the Group 3 Prix de Saint-Georges when BEAUTY IS TRUTH tried to make all over 5 furlongs only to be collared close home. This was a very brave effort for a three year old filly taking on older horses and also carrying a penalty. She will surely win a good sprint soon.

MOOD MUSIC continues the great run of the three year olds by Kyllachy, when he picked up the Listed Lanson-Cup over 6 furlongs at Baden-Baden. He is another that seems progressive and should be able to take on Group company next time.

12th May 2007

The Cheveley Park Stud homebred four year old filly HEAVEN SENT won the valuable John Doyle Fillies' Heritage Handicap at Ascot in the style of a filly that is most progressive. Drawn close to the near rails the Pivotal stalked the pace until 2 furlongs from home and took up the advantage and never looked likely to concede it. She will contest a black type contest next time and will be stern opposition for her rivals.

Kyllachy sired two more winners when MAKSHOOF won the competitive Betfred "The Bonus King" handicap at Haydock in very taking style and DICKIE LE DAVOIR won the toteplacepot Handicap at Nottingham. Kyllachy was also responsible for the very taking filly BLUE ECHO who ran a cracker when third in the Listed Kilvington Stakes at Nottingham. Fast away from a poor draw she showed good speed to lead until close home. Not bad for a three year old filly carrying a penalty and taking on older horses. She is one to keep on the right side.

1st May 2007

ENTICING made her reappearance in the Listed EBF Lansdown Fillies Stakes at Bath today, and promptly announced herself as a sprinter to be considered this season. Not only did the daughter of Pivotal win this 5 furlong event by 5 easy lengths, but she smashed the track record by over a second and registered a time of 58.75 seconds. She bounced off the fast ground and now heads for either the Temple Stakes at Sandown or the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. She looks a really exciting prospect.

22nd April 2007

DANAK completed a very good weekend for the Cheveley Park Stallion roster when he showed great determination to with the Listed Heritage Stakes at Leopardstown. Under a strong hand ride the son of Pivotal showed courage to get up on the line to register his fourth win in as many starts.  He will improve and will earn more valuable black type.

This result was hot on the heels of MIGHTY (Pivotal) finishing a very close up second in the Group 3 John Porter Stakes at Newbury. He showed tenacity to be beaten by a neck proven Group 1 performer Maraahel and one would feel that he is still improving.

Later in the afternoon, Kyllachy had two more winners when DADDY COOL and JACK RACKHAM won on the fast ground at Thirsk. That makes 29 individual winners from his first crop now and they seem to be improving with age.

9th April 2007

Kyllachy sired his second two year old winner of the season when KYLAYNE made virtually all to win the cherriesracing.com Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Warwick over the minimum trip. Always in the van, she stayed on well to win for Newmarket trainer Paul d'Arcy and  looks a filly to follow.

It looks very good for 2007, with 20 individual winners and many more KYLLACHY youngsters progressing well the older they get. Don't forget that KYLLACHY and his sire PIVOTAL were much better as three year olds (and older).

5th October 2006

THE ICEMAN COMETH.

ICEMAN, a homebred colt by Polar Falcon out of Virtuous by Exit To Nowhere, is to stand at Cheveley Park Stud in 2007. He was greeted by Head Stallion Man John Rice when he arrived back from John Gosden's Newmarket yard.

Iceman will be welcomed by discerning breeders as his dam is a member of one of Cheveley Park Stud's best families, being closely related to Coronation Stakes Group 1 winner Exclusive, and Group winners Chic and Echelon.

Managing Director Chris Richardson said 'Iceman is a stunningly good looking individual who has the same relaxed temperament as our dear friend, the late Polar Falcon and his son, Pivotal. Iceman won the Coventry Stakes, Group 2 at Royal Ascot, was second in the Champagne Stakes, Group 2 at Doncaster, when carrying a 5lbs penalty, and third in the Middle Park Stakes Group 1 as a two year old. Having finished a frustrating fourth in the Craven Stakes Group 3, the following year, he was unsuited by the very firm conditions he encountered in the 2000 Guineas in 2005. Iceman retired sound, although the ground at times during the season went against him.

Cheveley Park Stud will be supporting and marketing Iceman in its customary fashion, and at a fee of £5,000 (1.10 terms) Special Live Foal, Iceman offers an exciting opportunity for breeders in 2007.

He now goes into winter quarters as one of the favourites for the 2000gns to be run at Newmarket next spring and it will take a very good colt to lower his colours.

The race saw the first ever victory of a Cheveley Park Stud homebred winning a Classic in our own colours as well as the first Classic victory for the filly's infamous trainer Sir Mark Prescott.

The Medicean filly ALMERITA won the Group 1 Henkel Preis der Diana (German Oaks) at Dusseldorf today. Always close up, ALMERITA took the lead entering the final furlong and always looked like landing this valuable and prestigious prize. This more than makes up for her finishing runner up in the German 1000 Guineas and Preis der Winterkonigin on her latest two starts. A consistent and very able filly, ALMERITA must be respected wherever she runs next.

After winning so well on his debut at York 16 days earlier, SADEEK was made favourite for the Listed Vodafone Woodcote Stakes at Epsom and duly obliged winning a shade comfortably. Not totally at home on this undulating track, this Kyllachy colt showed real speed for a juvenile and will surely come on for the experience. CHEVELEY PARK STUD HOMEBRED PEERESS WINS THE LOCKINGE.

Making her seasonal debut in the Group 1 Juddmonte Lockinge at Newbury, PEERESS showed a fantastic turn of foot to secure the third Lockinge Stakes in six years for the Cheveley Park Stud. The homebred filly by PIVOTAL out of the Primo Dominie mare Noble One, settled in behind the early leaders and showed terrific turn of foot to win this valuable prize easily.

She follows resident stallion MEDICEAN and the super RUSSIAN RHYTHM in winning this prestigious prize in the famous red, white and blue colours.

To underline what an influential sire PIVOTAL is becoming, was shown again when his son KYLLACHY sired his fourth winner, when ELIZA MAY won on her racecourse bow at Thirsk. She was impressive in winning this event and connections are considering a crack at the Listed Hilary Needler at Beverley next time.

ALMERITA - Another Stakes winner for Medicean.

The usually informative trial, the Listed Kolner Fruhjahrs-Stuten-Preis was run at Cologne today and it resulted in the MEDICEAN filly ALMERITA winning very comfortably from a decent field. She showed a good turn of foot to win by nearly 2 lengths. She is progressing very satisfactorily and will hopefully run in the German 1000 Guineas to be run at Dusseldorf on the 30th April.

In winning ALMERITA became the third Stakes winners for MEDICEAN. As he progressed throughout his career, it seems his progeny will also improve.

Group 1 winner CHORIST (Pivotal) produced her first foal, an attractive chesnut colt by King’s Best, on 19th March. Managing Director Chris Richardson said “I am delighted that this Group 1 winning daughter of PIVOTAL has produced her first foal which, at this early stage, looks an exciting prospect for the future. William and Maureen Haggas have already been up to see him, although I suspect that the Company’s Director, Sir Michael Stoute, may be opening the batting when it comes to allocation time”!

Homebred CHORIST, was a Stakes winner in three consecutive seasons with the highlight having been a half length defeat of Alexander Goldrun in the Group 1 Audi Pretty Polly Stakes run at the Curragh. She rounded off her racing career when finishing a creditable second to Haafhd in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket and in so doing defeating Group 1 winners Azamour, Refuse To Bend and Doyen.

11th March 2006

One of Cheveley Park Stud’s most recent acquisitions to their broodmare band, Canda (Storm Cat), produced a stunning chesnut colt by Elusive Quality on 27th February. Managing Director Chris Richardson said; “The significant purchase at the Keeneland November Sale of such an attractive, beautifully bred mare as Canda adds another exciting jewel to Mr and Mrs Thompson’s breeding programme for the future. As you would expect from such a quality mare, she has given us a lovely strong well balanced colt, who weighed 130lbs.”

Bloodstock agent Patrick Lawley-Wakelin, who was on the telephone to Richardson during the bidding, had the final successful bid on behalf of Cheveley Park Stud of $2,400,000.

The Stakes performing Canda hails from the immediate family of both Kingmambo (Mr. Prospector) and Rumplestiltskin (Danehill). Canda is out of the French Oaks and 1000 Guineas winner East Of The Moon (Private Account) . Canda is due to visit Pivotal in 2006.

Another well bred mare who recently gave birth is River Saint. This half sister to the World Leading Money earning mare Serena's Song, produced a cracking chesnut filly by Pivotal. She is due to visit the new addition to the Cheveley Park Stud Stallion ranks in Starcraft, who has taken to his new career very well, having his first six mares covered all tested in foal.

A Rainbow Quest half sister to the stud's Leading First Season sire Medicean, has produced a very taking individual by Dalakhani. The winner Moon Goddess delivered a lovely chesnut filly on the 10th March.

A FILLY FOAL FOR RUSSIAN RHYTHM

After much anticipation at Cheveley Park Stud the multiple Group 1 and Classic winner Russian Rhythm (Kingmambo) gave birth to her first foal on 9th February. Managing Director Chris Richardson said; “Mr and Mrs Thompson were thrilled to hear that Russian Rhythm had foaled her first foal, a chesnut filly by Pivotal, who appears a very exciting mix of both sire and dam. A lovely filly of quality with a white star like her mum, she weighed in at 55kgs.” Russian Rhythm returns to Pivotal in 2006.

There have also been a number of other notable arrivals at Cheveley Park Stud in recent weeks. None more so than on 22nd January when Danehurst (Danehill) the admirably tough and consistent multiple Group winner produced a bay filly by Pivotal, this makes the foal a close relation to French Group 3 winner Humouresque.

Two more close relations to Group 1 winner Chorist arrived, both by Pivotal the bay fillies are out of Testament (Darshaan) and the Stakes performer Choirgirl (Unfuwain). The former an aunt and the latter a half sister to Chorist.

The stakes winner Ice Palace (Polar Falcon) produced her first foal on 31st January. The chesnut filly by Selkirk is the same cross as Group 1 winner Red Bloom (Selkirk). Ice Palace will return to resident stallion Medicean in 2006.  We also saw the arrival of a full sister to Red Bloom, where her dam the Group winning Red Camellia had a bay filly by Selkirk. She returns to the Champion son of Sharpen Up again in 2006.

Maiden mare Liberty (Singspiel) also produced her first foal, a bay filly by Cape Cross on 4th February. Liberty is a winning half sister to Coventry Stakes winner Iceman (Polar Falcon), she is due to visit King’s Best.

Coy (Danehill) was another maiden to foal in recent weeks, she had a filly by Red Ransom on 12th February. Coy is herself a stakes winner and is from the family of Diffident (Nureyev) and Opening Verse (The Minstrel), she returns to Pivotal in 2006.

Starcraft to stand Northern Hemisphere season at Cheveley Park Stud in 2006

The Starcraft Syndicate today announced that their World Champion Miler elect of 2005, STARCRAFT, will stand the 2006 Northern Hemisphere season at Cheveley Park Stud in Newmarket, England.

Starcraft created a huge impression internationally this season when the antipodean won two of Europe’s most prestigious Group 1 races in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Newmarket.  Starcraft was a decisive winner of both these events and in the process defeated Group 1 winners Dubawi, Rakti, Valixir and Whipper to lay claims to the title of Best Miler in the World.

In recent years, a number of Australasian bred horses have ventured to the Northern Hemisphere and met with success.  However, Starcraft boasts the best credentials of all these raiders as he is the first since the mighty Strawberry Road some twenty years ago, to be a multiple Group 1 winner in both Hemispheres.  Strawberry Road went on to sire some 37 Stakes winners including two Champions in Breeders’ Cup heroines Escena and Fraise.

Starcraft’s race record is second to none in that he won five Group 1 races in four countries.  His Northern Hemisphere trainer Luca Cumani described Starcraft as “a most impressive physical specimen with a great swagger, blessed with explosive power.  A true Champion miler, he will be a great asset to all Northern Hemisphere Breeders.  If you admire Shane Warne, you will love Starcraft.  I wish I could have trained him for longer.”

Cheveley Park Stud Managing Director Chris Richardson said “we are truly delighted that we will be standing such a tough and genuine international Champion Miler as Starcraft with us at Cheveley Park Stud, a horse who possessed such an impressive turn of foot.  Starcraft, defeated the best in both Hemispheres and I am sure he will be well received and supported by European Breeders.”

Starcraft possesses a pedigree packed with toughness and speed and like fellow Cheveley Park Stud stallion Pivotal, who currently ranks amongst the world’s leading sires, is a grandson of Nureyev being by European Champion miler Soviet Star.

PIVOTAL SIRES TWO GROUP/GRADE 1 WINNERS ON A MEMORABLE DAY

Cheveley Park Stud resident stallion PIVOTAL, had a memorable day when two homebred fillies won top flight races both sides of the Atlantic. PEERESS won the Group 1 Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes over a mile at Newmarket by a comfortable 1/2 length. Always travelling well just behind the pace she quickened up to win well from numerous Group winners in the process. She stays in training next year and is something to look forward too.

A few hours later is was the turn of MEGAHERTZ. Winning her second Grade 1 event she comfortably gained the Yellow Ribbon Stakes at Santa Anita on a fast surface. This was the fourteenth win of her illustrious career which will be ended when she contests the Breeders' Cup Fillies' race in four weeks time.

25th September 2005

We saw a very competitive renewal of the historic Group 2 Totesport.com Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket go the the progressive LEO owned by H.R.H. Princess Haya of Jordan and trained by John Gosden. The son of PIVOTAL is taking his racing well and has improved now running over a mile and letting him us his long stride to good effect. There is surely more fun to be had with this colt. A point for you breeders out there, this is the second Group winner this year by Pivotal out of a Primo Dominie mare. That cross is a sure sign of courage and soundness.

To make what was a memorable weekend for Cheveley Park Stud was seeing our homebred filly ECHELON (Danehill) comfortably win the LIsted Miles & Morrison October Stakes at Newmarket. Dropping back to 7 furlongs proved to be no problem as she stayed on well.

24th September 2005

MEDICEAN'S DAUGHTER NANNINA WINS THE GROUP 1 MEON VALLEY STUD FILLIES' MILE.

With a typically brave and courageous finishing run so reminiscent of her sire MEDICEAN, the Cheveley Park Stud homebred filly NANNINA won the prestigious Group 1 Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile at Newmarket. NANNINA, who is from her sire's successful first crop, is progressing with her races and goes into winter quarters with hope's high for a prominent run when she will hopefully return to the Rowley Mile next May for the One Thousand Guineas (Group 1).

To make the day complete for Cheveley Park Stud, we saw another of our sires, the fantastically successful PIVOTAL sire the first two home in the Listed Rosemary Stakes at Newmarket. SALAMANCA beat JOINT ASPIRATION in a driving finish which showed the battling qualities of both fillies. There is surely more black type to come for both.

17th September 2005

The Cheveley Park Stud bred BATTLE CHANT (Coronado's Quest) wins his second race in the United Stakes when sprinting home to capture the John D. The Cheveley Park Stud homebred filly COMMENTARY broke her maiden when easily beating 12 other runners on only her second start. She became the eighth individual winner for the Cheveley Park Stud resident stallion MEDICEAN, who has started off his stallion career in such promising fashion. The Cheveley Park Stud homebred stallion MEDICEAN further enhanced his growing reputation as a successful young stallion when his juvenile colt REGAL ROYALE won on his debut at Newbury. Always in contention, this handsome colt quickened well approaching the final two furlongs and quickly put the result beyond doubt. A bright future awaits.

An hour later, MEDICEAN earned some more black type as a stallion, when his daughter NANNINA finished third in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Newbury over 6 furlongs. Starting from an unfavourable low draw, she stayed on really well in what proved to be a course record time. She will no doubt be suited to further in due course and we look forward to seeing her next time.

Fine start for Falbrav.

FALBRAV who stood as a stallion at Cheveley Park Stud for the 2005 season had his first foals sell in Japan, and what an impression they made. Ten were sold for an average of ¥256,500,000 (US$230,000 / £130,000) and the colt out of the Southern Halo mare, Sun Spring sold for ¥68,000,000 (US$607,000 / £343,000). MEGAHERTZ continues to dominate the Mare Turf races in California with another facile win in the Grade 2 Beverly Hills Handicap, run at Hollywood Park. Showing her customary turn of foot, the daughter of PIVOTAL easily gained her twelfth career win.

19th June 2005

MEDICEAN sired his third two year old winner in five days when the debutante NANNINA won the EBF toteplaceport Maiden Fillies Stakes at Pontefract. Tardily away the filly ran very green during the early stages but began to pick up at halfway and showed very good acceleration to win this competitive event by 3 lengths going away. This homebred filly, out of the Danehill mare Hill Hopper, will progress from this and could well contest black type soon.

15th June 2005

A great day for Cheveley Park Stud.

Our First Season sire MEDICEAN, sires his first double when two of his first crop win maidens. Firstly, GRAND STAR wins at Milan on unsuitable heavy ground. She will show improved form on a better surface. Then ABIGAIL PETT win a 7 furlong maiden at Leopardstown, where she showed a good turn of foot. Watch this space as there will be so much more to talk about the stallion 'bred to be a sire of Two-Year-Olds - and is now proving it'.

PEERESS beats Sundrop and Champion Soviet Song, when winning the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot at York. Showing real determination and a good turn of foot, the daughter of Pivotal turned in a very impressive performance to win by 2 lengths and was going away at the finish. She is definitely improving and will contest a Group 1 race soon, which could be the Falmouth Stakes where she will could take on these two good fillies again.

22nd May 2005

PIVOTAL has 1-2 in the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas.

SAOIRE beats PENKENNA PRINCESS to land the Irish 1000 Guineas to the Curragh. A fantastic result for PIVOTAL whose daughters filled the first two places and were only separated by a short head at the end of this fantastic Group 1 event. Both fillies have shown Group form prior to this but are clearly improving and could well be seen to good effect throughout the summer.

Our congratulations go out to all the connections involved and we look forward to seeing them both again soon. More black type must surely be on the way.

13th May 2005

PEERESS becomes the latest Stakes winner when easily winning the Michael Seely Memorial Stakes at York. The daughter of Pivotal showed a good turn of foot when taking this Listed event in most taking fashion. Royal Ascot at York next? Quite possibly.

LUCKY SPIN starts of her season with a win in the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies' Stakes, at Lingfield. This daughter of Pivotal appears to have improved from 3 to 4 years and looks to have a good season ahead of her. She again showed her customary turn of foot and will contest more Group races soon.

17th April 2005

ANOTHER GRADED WIN FOR MEGAHERTZ. The ultra tough and classy six year old mare MEGAHERTZ won the Grade 2 Santa Barbara Handicap for the third year in a row. This daughter of Pivotal has now amassed nearly $1.7m in prize money. “She’s so special" winning jockey Alex Solis said after the now customary way of letting the others get a head start. “That’s her, being back there.  You can’t fight her. She just says, ‘I’ll let them go and I’ll catch them later.’“I never have ridden a horse that has that kind of kick,” Solis added. “It’s incredible. You really have to understand her, leave her alone, and let her do her thing. She gets me worried, too, but I trust what she’s doing the whole race. I do my stuff on the backside and go from there.”

16th April 2005

OFF AND RUNNING. Pivotal sires his first Stakes winner of the year in Europe when PENKENNA PRINCESS shows her usual qualities and battles really well to win the Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury. This big filly trained by Ralph Beckett, will benefit from this outing and will now hopefully take her chance in the Group 1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in two weeks.

An half an hour later, JOHNNY JUMPUP stayed on strongly to finish second in the 7 furlong Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury. Slightly impeded when challenging over a furlong from home, he ran well and appears to be crying out for a mile. He will hopefully contest the Group 2 Mehl-Mulhens Rennen (German 2000 Guineas) next time.

6th April 2005

Doncaster Breeze Ups - Lot 180 a Pivotal filly out of Notturna impresses work watchers and sells for a day topping 130,000gns.
