Contacts at Cheveley Park Stud
Chris gained experience at the Haras de St Maclou in France, prior to spending time at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky in 1980. In 1981 looked after the stallions, including the late Nureyev, in his first season, at the Niarchos Family’s Haras de Fresnay Le Buffard in France. Chris then moved to Spring Oak Farm in Kentucky, for Flaxman Holdings Limited, where he spent six years managing the stud prior to joining Cheveley Park Stud in 1987.

John entered the bloodstock industry working at Woodditton Stud and preparing yearlings for Hamish Alexander at his Partridge Close Stud. He then gained experience when at the Taylor Made Sales Agency in Kentucky and was instrumental in forming the pedigree research department. He was introduced to Chris Richardson in 1987, who offered him a position at Cheveley Park Stud the following season. He joined 23 years ago and he is still here.
Andrew started working for the National Stud in 1980 where he spent ten years, the last five as the Assistant Stud Groom. During that time Andrew spent three summers preparing sales’ yearlings for the Bengough Family at Arrow farm in Herefordshire. Andrew joined Cheveley Park Stud as Stud Groom on Alan Baker’s retirement in January 1990; a role which he remained in until taking over as Stud Manager in 2004.
Matthew has lived and worked around horses all his life having grown up on his parents’ stud farm. He graduated from Newcastle University with a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in 2002, before being accepted on to the then BHB Graduate Development Programme, which included a 12 month placement with Darley. Matthew began working for Cheveley Park Stud in June 2003, preparing sales’ yearlings at Sandwich Stud, before also working a season in the Stallion Yard.
After graduating from Sussex University with a BSC in Economics, Chris went on to obtain an M Phil in finance at Darwin College, Cambridge. He has always held a keen interest in horse racing and trained with the bloodstock department of Pricewaterhouse Coopers where he qualified as a chartered accountant in 1994. Chris joined Mr. & Mrs. Thompson’s group of companies shortly afterwards and holds various roles. He was appointed Finance Director at the stud in 2007.
