Good Guess Aces Djebel Test

Posted on

GOOD GUESS (Kodiac) showed a smart turn of foot to spring a minor upset in the Gr.3 Prix Djebel at Deauville for Fabrice Chappet and Stephane Pasquier. The Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere hero Belbek was sent off as an even money favourite but was headed over a furlong out and could only manage third. Although he had shown some useful form as a juvenile, this was a clear career-best from Good Guess, whose pedigree suggests that he should continue to progress. His second dam, Russian Rhythm, won the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and Good Guess holds an entry for the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp.

Bred by Cheveley Park Stud out of Zykina (Pivotal), Good Guess is a half-brother to Gr.3 Sceptre Stakes winner Spangled (Starspangledbanner) and the Listed-placed Jumira Bridge (Invincible Spirit). This is also the immediate family of the Group 3 winners Potapova (Invincible Spirit), Bashkirova (Pivotal), Zonderland (Dutch Art), Marenko (Exceed & Excel) and Positive (Dutch Art). Good Guess was purchased by Chauvigny Global Equine for 420,000gns at Tattersalls Book 1. Zykina is booked to visit Kingman in 2023.
