The hitherto unraced HOLLOWAY BOY (Ulysses) upset the odds to land the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot on his racecourse debut. Trained by Karl Burke, he was settled in rear by Danny Tudhope before launching a powerful run down the centre of the track that resulted in a cosy length success. His victory is all the more notable for that fact that he is the first two-year-old to triumph at Royal Ascot first time out since 1996. He joins Piz Badile as the second Stakes winner sired by Ulysses and is the first juvenile Stakes winner for the son of Galileo and Light Shift.
Holloway Boy was bred by Cheveley Park Stud and descends from GAY GALLANTA, who won the Gr.2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot before going on to land the Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes during a terrific juvenile campaign for Sir Michael Stoute. He was purchased by Karl & Kelly Burke from Tattersalls Book 2 for 60,000gns. His dam, Sultry (Pivotal), has produced a yearling full-sister to Holloway Boy and has a filly foal by Earthlight at foot. In total, Cheveley Park Stud bred three winners at this year’s Royal Ascot meeting, with Gr.1 Coronation Stakes heroine INSPIRAL (Frankel) and Buckingham Palace Stakes scorer INVER PARK (Pivotal) joining Holloway Boy on the scoresheet.
