The unbeaten INSPIRAL (Frankel) lined up a warm order for the Fillies’ Mile and gave favourite backers little to worry about as she produced yet another dominant display under Frankie Dettori. Restrained to track Cachet down the centre of the course, she made gradual headway as the field converged 3f from home. Inspiral was already prominent by the time Frankie asked her to go and win the race 2f from home. The response was swift and she established a clear lead entering the final furlong, keeping on well to triumph by two-and-a-half lengths.
Trained by John & Thady Gosden, Inspiral opened her account on debut in a July Course maiden at the end of June and she has taken a step forward with each subsequent start, which bodes well for the future. She slammed subsequent Gr.1 winner Wild Beauty by over three lengths in the Listed Star Stakes at Sandown and went on to confirm that impression when stamping her class over the field in the Gr.2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster. Following this victory, Inspiral heads into winter quarters as the genereal 3/1 favourite for the 1000 Guineas.
Inspiral is the third winner of the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile for Cheveley Park Stud, joining RED BLOOM (2003) and NANNINA (2005), who was also trained by John Gosden. She is the fourth foal and fourth winner out of STARSCOPE (Selkirk), who finished runner-up in the Gr.1 1000 Guineas and Gr.1 Coronation Stakes for John Gosden in 2012. Starscope foaled a colt by Siyouni this season and was covered by ULYSSES.
